Most common MRI scanner is a closed MRI scanner. This means that the scanner is shaped like a tunnel open at both ends, but encapsulates the patient from the sides. MRI scanners today are often a newer model with “large bore”, meaning the tunnel is wider. This is very helpful if you are concerned over tight spaces.

A closed MRI is the gold standard of MRI scanners. It is able to perform the biggest range of scans with high-quality images as the patient is positioned inside the magnet.
