An open type of MRI scanner means that the magnet is located above and below the patient. The scanner is open on all four sides often being a great solution for patients that are unable to tolerate closed scanners or need an open scanner to accommodate body size.
Because of the location of the magnets, not all body parts can be examined in an open scanner and sometimes lower image quality is a factor that needs to be taken into consideration when choosing a scanner.
Always speak to your doctor should you have any concerns and they will be able to provide you with advice on suitability.
